TCP Enhancement Using Active Network Based Proxy Transport Service
نویسندگان
چکیده
TCP performance degrades with increasing round trip time (rtt) due to longer slow start periods and slower rate of increase of the congestion window. The proposed, PTS (proxy transport service) is an active network based service, that can improve the end-to-end performance of TCP connections with large rtt’s. PTS also reduces the response time of TCP to congestion and can be used by other active services. A PTS session consists of two separate TCP connections, one between the source host and a designated intermediate node (the PTS node), and another between the PTS node and the destination host. PTS complements TCP without compromising reliability. Simulation studies show the effect of PTS node location, buffer size and node service time on the performance of PTS. Performance can be significantly improved by deploying an interactive distributed service that allows the host to choose the proxy node.

Improving TCP Performance over 802.11 WLAN with Radio Network Feedback
A new technique is proposed that enables TCP to distinguish wireless packet losses from congestion related packet losses. This is achieved by introducing a wireless enhancement proxy (WENP) at layer 3 in the base station that monitors the TCP packet flows in both directions, detects wireless packet drops and provides feedback to the TCP sender using one of the TCP header reserved bits. The stan...
متن کاملThroughput Analysis of TCP Proxy Mechanism
TCP overlay networks that control data transmission quality at the transport layer are being paid a lot of attentions as users’ demands for diversified Internet services increase. They are expected to enhance the end–to–end throughput of the TCP connection essentially because the round trip times and the packet loss ratios of each split TCP connection are reduced. However, performance degradati...
متن کاملPerformance of Different Proxy Concepts in UMTS Networks
It is well known that the large round trip time and the highly variable delay in a cellular network may degrade the performance of TCP. Many concepts have been proposed to improve this situation, including performance enhancing proxies (PEPs). One important class of PEPs are split connection proxies, which terminate a connection from a server in the Internet in a host close to the Radio Access ...
متن کاملA TCP Service Migration Protocol for Single User Multiple Devices
In this paper, we present a new transport protocol TSMP, which seeks to support data transfer for the emerging usage paradigm of ”single user, multiple devices” in a TCP compatible manner. Through its novel naming and proxy-based designs, TSMP is able to retain the current client and server protocol operations of the legacy TCP protocol and TCP-based applications while placing new functions at ...
